EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
May 2013-Present White Plains City School District, White Plains, NY
Substitute Teacher

Jan-Jun 2013 White Plains High School, White Plains, NY
Teacher Candidate
Under the guidance and supervision of master teacher Mr. Paul Davis, the last two marking periods of the calendar year I have been under his supervision to transition from an observer to taking on the responsibilities of a teacher in his 9th and 10th grade Global Studies classes. I work closely with Mr. Davis on lesson plans, assessments, and the general work any teacher puts forth during a day. Also I work closely with my professor Dr. Marrero, to facilitate the educational aspect of my candidacy and she closely helps me monitor my growth as an up and coming professional. At the end of this student teaching experience I will have finished my master’s degree and earn accreditation from the State of New York to teach Social Studies at the 7th-12th grade levels.

2009-2012 Albert Leonard Middle School, New Rochelle, NY
Permanent Substitute Teacher
Grades 6-8, daily assignments to classes throughout entire school, specializing in 7th/8th grade Social Studies. In 2010, I was placed in an 8th grade social studies class while a teacher was on leave for a few weeks. I worked closely with department heads, other social studies teachers as well as co-teachers to facilitate an enriched environment to meet and assess the NYS Social Studies curriculum. In 2011, I was placed into PAT program which is the self-contained class. Unlike the previous long term placement, this was concentrated on 6th and 7th grade students and I made lessons for all subjects throughout the day. In accordance with NYS laws regarding students with 504s, I sat in on meetings, I used the resources the district provided me including the two TA’s that were amazing teachers and people who helped me tremendously in this area of education. In 2012 I took over a 7th grade Science classroom while a teacher was on medical leave. Just like the other previous long term placements I worked on lesson planning, assessments, and was even able to reach out to families of children in need of extra help, sat in on meetings with parents, assisted the teacher with the grades at the end of the marking period.

2009                Albert Leonard Middle School, New Rochelle, NY
Internship/Volunteer
January until June, over 250 hours logged within the classroom. Classroom management, lesson planning, field trips, and other day to day instructor responsibilities were tackled. Working closely with mentor, social studies teacher Mr. Mike Lyons, a collaborated effort resulted in a positive experience in and out of the classroom. After my semester was over, I stayed until finals were over to help out and assist my students the best way I knew how by running reviews and giving extra help to those who needed or wanted it.
